Why We Canceled Our Planned Vacation During Early Coronavirus Outbreak

we canceled our trip coronavirus

Yeah, this sucks.

We made the tough decision to cancel

Yeah, this sucks. We canceled our planned trip to Adelaide, Australia to visit Lockie’s family. This trip has been planned for MONTHS and due to the current Coronavirus pandemic we made the tough decision to postpone the trip.

This was a tough one. We struggled with this decision for dayyys. We were set to depart on March 13, the day after President Trump announced a travel ban for foreigners from Europe and the SAME DAY that Trump declared the pandemic was a National Emergency.

Why we decided not to take our trip to Australia during Coronavirus

Here’s why we postponed Our trip

Here’s why we decided to postpone the trip for this summer.

1.) It takes 3 flights to get from Denver to South Australia and 3 to get back. That is 6 chances that someone on one of our planes could have Coronavirus. And 6 opportunities to be forced to self-quarantine. Wouldn’t it be terrible if we had to self-quarantine while in Australia? Defeats the purpose of going there.

2.) How terrible would we feel if we caught Coronavirus on the way there and gave it to Lockie’s family? We all know that our older parents could be in that high-risk group.

3.) In light of the recent Europe travel ban, there is a lot of uncertainty. Will Trump extend the ban to other countries? Will this prompt airlines to cancel many flights? Will we be able to get home when we need to?

Why we decided not to take our planned vacation during coronavirus

The bright light in all of this is the fact that the airlines are being pretty cool. We were able to call Virgin Australia just hours before we were set to take off and get a travel credit for our flights. We do plan to rebook as soon as we get some clarity on when this pandemic will lighten up.

Sharing this in case you are faced with a similar situation right now.
