The Best Interior White Wall Paint Color

The Best Interior White Wall Paint Color

interior white paint color

At our house, we’re big fans of white walls. There’s something about the blank canvas, the lightness and the modern feel that makes our home feel clean and fresh. If you’re unsure of what color to paint your walls- start with white. This a great base for any color or great on it’s own.

And with passion comes a lot (a lot!) of research. After much searching and deliberation, I have found the best interior white wall paint color. (And I’ve used it in two homes now!)

The process

My goal was to find a white wall color that did not feel stark or sterile (AKA too bright) but had a softness to it without skewing blue or yellow. I really dislike undertones. This frees up your other design choices, so you don’t have to worry about pairing your white walls with warm or cool tone kitchen cabinets, etc.

I went to Home Depot, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore and grabbed dozens of white paint samples. I poured over them for weeks, comparing them to each other and testing them in various lighting until I narrowed down to my top faves. And I finally found THE ONE.

Okay, so what IS the best interior white wall paint color?

I’ll cut to the chase, I’m a Sherwin Williams gal. My top pick for interior white walls is “Snowbound” by Sherwin Williams. It is 1-2 shades darker than pure white (but still looks white to the eye) and has no funky undertones at all. To me, it’s the perfect versatile white for interior home walls.

We painted the entire interior of our first home in Sherwin Williams “Snowbound” and have now used the same color in our second home. When you find a good thing, you hang onto it! Right?

And it gets even better.

Now, what sheen?

One of the reasons this paint is so fantastic, is the sheen options. For some reason this isn’t widely known but Sherwin Williams has a line of paint called ProMar200. The beauty of this line is that it offers more sheen options than most other paints which offer flat or eggshell. I prefer matte walls but with kids and pet they are not durable and don’t clean easily. That’s where ProMar200 comes in, offering “Low Sheen Eggshell” sheen which is truly the best of both worlds. You get the look of flat matte walls with the cleaning ability of eggshell walls. Perfecto!

Well, there is one downside and that’s the price. It is more costly than other Sherwin Williams paint lines. Bonus tip: sign up for Sherwin Williams emails- they run sales periodically!

Okay, are you convinced yet?
