Radiator Springs Cars Themed Bedroom

Radiator Springs Cars Themed Bedroom

This one’s for all the parents with Cars movie obsessed kiddos out there. We finally did it, we transitioned our Aussie themed baby nursery into a tasteful (yet playful) toddler room- Radiator Springs style. Our son Lennox LOVES the Disney Pixar Cars movie and I love the neutral retro desert vibe of Radiator Springs. So we decided to go all in on a Radiator Springs Cars themed bedroom!

If you’re thinking of creating a similar room for your son or daughter, keep reading. Here’s how we pulled it all together with a few big items and smaller accent themed decor, all mostly from Amazon. The best part? Many of these items can be repurposed later for other room transformations as your child grows.

The Mountain Mural

The main focal point of the room, and what all the decor is anchored in, is the red rock style painted mountain wall. I outlined in pencil and then hand painted this mural based on movie posters from the movie and filled in the colors with what I wanted the color pallet of the room to be. This hand painted mountain mural was a labor of love, but also not necessary to get this cute bedroom vibe. Purchasing brown or similar colored mountain wall stickers can get the same effect! Go for desert looking mountains in rust hues if you can.

The Bed

The piece that really makes this a “Cars” themed room is the toddler bed. I love this simple no frills plastic Cars toddler bed because it is inexpensive, low to the ground, uses a crib mattress and is therefore the perfect transition bed from crib to big-kid bed. I like that it’s not a huge investment since I”m not sure how long we’ll need a toddler transition bed. This room can easily accommodate a twin size (Cars!) bed when we’re ready. Sadly, the Cars toddler bed we bought is no longer available but here’s a similar one also from Delta Children that looks great. ($94)

The Rug

The third crucial element to this room is the neutral checker rug. I loooove that this rug gives off a grand prix racing feel but is also super cozy and tasteful to the eye. I decided to get a good quality rug and fell in love with this brown neutral Revival rug. (Pro tip: it’s expensive but they do have sales!!) This piece specifically can grow with your child and be used in other themed bedrooms later.

The Accents and Artwork

Also known as the “Smalls”, decor accents really finish a room and make it feel complete. I wanted some playful and cozy reading/ multipurpose wood looking stools for the room so this plush wood stump set was perfect. These are excellent quality and I can’t recommend them enough.

The “Race Car Parking Only” sign is adorable and inexpensive from Amazon. This Radiator Springs sign is also from Amazon and an easy add to the room. I added inflatable car tires to the decor, because I had them already from a Cars themed birthday party. I love repurposing items!

The Route 66 highway poster artwork is great because it’s not super specific to this room and can be re-used for other bedroom themes down the road. (See what I did there?!) It’s from Desenio online and you can order to come with a frame in various sizes and colors.

I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you use any of this as inspo for your kiddos next room! Happy decorating.
