TEA: Your New Fav Slang Word
I wish I had named my blog MisTEA.
“Tea” is no longer delicate. Or sippy. Or primarily English.
According to HelloGiggles:
T or Tea is slang for gossip, situation, story or news. You can give Tea, get Tea or spill Tea.
Hello Giggles also claims the term stems from:
“The custom in the South of women who gather in the afternoon to drink tea and gossip.”
Ok so I love this.
A new word for gossip that sounds elegant.
I first noticed Tea’s insane popularity when Ariana Grande made her new DangerousWoman.com website.
Then my uber-hip college aged coworker at Clevver, Drew Dorsey, said it to me in passing on Oscar night.
Then I knew it was ON.
Examples:
“Girl, what’s the TEA today?”
“OMG spill the tea!”
