Granite. Granite. Granite. Why is everyone obsessed with granite? It turns out I’m a quartz gal. Here’s why I chose white quartz countertops during our kitchen renovation on our new house!
Let’s get right to it…
Wood countertops look great. But they damage very easily and they are impossible to keep clean and sanitary.
Cement countertops are very farmhouse trendy right now. Knowing that countertops aren’t simple to switch out, I preferred something with more long-lasting appeal. (You gotta consider resale value, right?!) Cement is also also a bit rugged for my style, I prefer a warm feeling kitchen.
Granite. Everyone’s favorite countertop. Granite is extremely popular because of its durability, natural appeal, and appearance of luxury. However, I don’t prefer the look of granite because it’s noisy and can give off a busy appearance.
That leaves us with my pick: QUARTZ! Quartz is not as durable as granite but IT is a close second. I also much prefer the appearance of quartz so for me, this was a no brainer.
But after you choose what material of countertop you want to go with… then comes the really fun part of actually choosing one! I went to a few different countertop showrooms in Denver and by far the best one was MSI. If you are in the area, I highly recommend skipping others and going straight to MSI. Chances are your fabricator will recommend the same thing. I went to MSI (out near the airport) and picked out a slab and the store saved it under my fabricator’s name so he could come to pick it up.
My Quartz Pick
After much debate, I chose Cararra Morro from MSI. I wanted to stick with one of the cheaper grades of quartz but also find something with a clean look. I wanted a LITTLE bit of noise, but not too much. It came down to Cararra Marmi and Carrara Morro and ultimately I picked Morro because it appeared a little whiter and cleaner when you looked up close. And I like that the gray veins are not too light and not too dark.
PS: If you do take any of those little slab swatches home with you, they make great coasters!

Hi, Misty! I know this post is a few months old but I am considering Carrara Morro and cannot find any really good pictures of it. All they had is a small sample. I am looking for something that is not busy but want some light design to it. I don’t want it to look like white granite with hardly any design. Do you still like yours? My cabinets are a light greige and White Dove paint for walls. Both are warm colors but I don’t really like the off white quartz. Like more of a clean look. Do you have any pictures? Thank you!!

Great choice. I don’t know how much it was per slab, but I paid $4,250 for 65 square feet. So I believe that is about $65/ sq foot. Hope that helps!

I did go to MSI to see the quartz in person. It was hard to pick out a slab as the lighting in the store is very dim. I trusted that my countertop contractor would pick out a good slab, and I think he did. You might want to go to the store to see it in person just to make sure you like it. I do think that the swatches can look a bit different than the actual slab. All that said, I’m happy with my choice!

Hi! Did you find that there were a lot of shade variation between the slab swatches versus the actual slab you used for your kitchen? Did you go to MSI directly and pick out the actual slabs to make sure you like the slab to use? We decided to go with MSI and also Carrara Morro and we just called to order the slabs but not sure if it’s better to go in person to pick it out directly on the ones they are going to use.
