Kelly Clarkson Breaks Down on American Idol (Clevver News)
Kelly Clarkson returned to the American Idol stage last night to guest judge and perform live her intimate song, “Piece by Piece”. Kelly choked up TWICE while performing- take a look in the video above!
As Kelly herself put it, I think the performance was a perfect ending to a beautiful beginning (ahem, winning the 1st season of American Idol!).
For Kelly, “Piece by Piece” is a highly intimate song about her Father walking out when she was 6 years old, so it’s not terribly shocking the song combined with the final season of American Idol brought on the waterworks. I think it’s admirable Kelly held nothing back performing in front of the judges and America and did not let it stop her. Judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez both were noticeably teary-eyed watching Kelly perform. Kelly ended the song with a smile, a standing ovation from the crowd, and a joke saying she’s, “super pregnant” as if to explain the emotions. After the performance host Ryan Seacrest chatted with Kelly who explained she wrote “Piece by Piece” about her little girl River Rose when she was pregnant with her, and now she’s pregnant with a baby boy. That combined with the nostalgia of the final Idol season- just got to her. A super honest Kelly admitted she’s proud she made it that far into the song before she started bawling. I’d be emotional too. In fact- I am emotional about it.
